PREP BASEBALL
Hawks stretch streak to five
Gila Ridge swept a home doubleheader from Lake Havasu on Friday, pushing their winning streak to five games.
The Hawks needed five innings for a 4-3 victory in the first game, and five innings for an 11-1 win in the late game.
In Game 1, Stephen Garcia led off the ninth with a single. Then after he was bunted over to second, Marco Jaime drove him in with a walkoff double.
Ryan Householder pitched a complete game for the Hawks, striking out seven and not allowing an earned run and three hits.
In the second game, Garcia struck out seven in five innings to pick up the win. Irving Lopez and Irving Elizarraras had three hits each.
Koppinger leads Shamrocks
Matt Koppinger went 3-for-3, drove in three runs and struck out seven on the mound as Yuma Catholic beat Bourgade Catholic on Thursday.
Koppinger (4-3) pitched all seven innings for the Shamrocks (12-5 overall, 8-2 AIA power point games), allowing five earned runs and two walks.
Tanner Mixon and Brady Sorenson each had three hits and two RBIs for the Shamrocks.
PREP SOFTBALL
Cibola clubs Yuma High
Jackie Pierson struck out seven in a six-hit shutout as Cibola topped Yuma High 8-0 on Friday.
Bethany Olea and Isabella Olea had three hits each. Alex Roman and Amanda Hernandez each had two hits and two RBIs.
Kofa tops Gila Ridge
The Kofa softball team went to Gila Ridge on Wednesday and left with 13-5 win. Freshman Kennedy Garcia earned the victory for the Kings while going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and RBIs at the plate. Madison Tracy went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two triples, while Miranda Brookhart went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Kofa is now 8-7 in AIA power point games and 3-3 in Gila Valley Region play.
PREP GOLF
YC keeps on rolling
The Antelope Golf Invitational kicked off Friday at Coyote Wash Golf Course in Wellton with Yuma Catholic’s top quintet jumping out to an early lead.
Yuma Catholic’s No. 1 squad shot a 308 between its top four golfers over 18 holes, while Mohave Valley-River Valley sits at second with a mark of 324. Yuma Catholic’s No. 2 team is third at 361, ahead of fourth-place Phoenix-Arizona Lutheran (370), fifth place Antelope (409) and last-place Ajo, which didn’t have a complete team score.
The tournament will wrap up today at Coyote Wash.
