Local adobe estate opens for reservations
Comments 0 | Recommend 0It takes a genius to get paid to do something you might otherwise do for free. Case in point: Kim and Kevin Wright, whose 70-year old, 5,163-square-foot adobe home frequently had houseguests lounging around the colorful abode.
"We always loved to entertain and frequently had houseguests, so the next logical step was to open our home as a memorable rest and breakfast so people outside of our group of friends could enjoy the home as well," Kim said.
Kevin works in the mining industry and his travels around the world have enabled him to bring back paintings, tapestries, knickknacks and other items that give the couple's home an international flavor.
The home at 1681 W. 10th St., properly described as hacienda style, has three guest rooms separated from the main house. These three rooms are now currently available for reservations.
Each room has top-quality bedding, pillows and towels. All rooms have a kitchenette or wet bar and a microwave, coffee maker, small refrigerator and a flat-screen TV/DVD set to add to their comfort.
"The Oriental Room is located inside the main Adobe House," Kim said. "It has a queen-size bed and private bathroom with a separate shower.
"There is an outside door leading to its own patio with a fireplace. The collection of Oriental memorabilia in the room is from some of my grandmother's collection, along with pieces from the Orient where my husband and his siblings were born and grew up."
The Bird Room, situated off a black-bottom pool, offers a panoramic view of the mountains and a collection of birdhouses. Birds complete the theme. It is a quaint room with a queen-size bed and small private bathroom and shower.
On the north side of the swimming pool is the game room. Here, the Wrights enjoy karaoke, drinks with friends and the occasional game of billiards. The game room is open to guests of the RandB.
"The game room has dressing rooms and a shower and separate bathroom, so people can swim and they don't have to come in the house," Kim said. "And the karaoke is always open for people brave enough to sing."
From the back patio you are offered views of the mountains and sand dunes. A waterfall feature adds to the magnificent backdrop of the mountains.
Outside on the patio, the Wrights have installed two custom barbecue pits. To the right of those is an outdoor kitchen area that can be closed during Yuma's occasional windy weather.
The other room, the largest available for overnight guests, is The Nautilus Room. It's decorated with a variety of seashells, starfish and woven baskets.
"It's a bright, cheery room with a splendid view of the mountains and garden," Kim said. "A queen-size bed along with a kitchenette is provided to the guests. A private bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub/shower, and dressing area are also part (of the) wonderful room.
"A patio area outside the room is there for you to enjoy the morning or watch the beautiful Arizona sunset."
Guests are treated to a homemade breakfast served each morning from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Everyday choices of fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, muffins, pastries and yogurt, along with other breakfast delights are available for breakfast. For early risers, coffee, juice, muffins and cereal are always available.
"We will try and accommodate any special dietary requests also," Kim said.
A Gentlemen's Bar Room (yes, ladies are welcome) and exercise room complete with treadmill and elliptical machine, are also available for use to house guests, Kim said. An outdoor gazebo and Jacuzzi are also open for guest relaxation.
All rooms are non-smoking, and outdoor smoking is allowed in designated areas. The Adobe House is also available for rent for business functions and parties. "If schedule permits we are happy to host your company party or event," Kim added.
More information about each room and pricing, check out the Wrights Web site at www.theadobehouse.com. The Wrights will be taking reservations until May 31, and start up again in October. Kim Wright can be reached at 210-4777.
