Hypocrisy over Petraeus affair

It’s well known that former President Bill Clinton engaged in several adulterous affairs while Arkansas governor and while president — several affairs! In fact, he was impeached largely because of the one during his first term.

Was Bill Clinton so remorseful that he resigned the presidency? Hardly —  he went on to win a second term, largely because of the increased number of women who voted for him. After he had admitted a complete lack of moral integrity, America elected him to serve a second term!

Currently we have a famous general who admits to an affair after he left the military, and who is being pilloried for having and admitting one affair! He “voluntarily” resigned his CIA post (an office far less important than the presidency) and there are some saying that he should now face criminal charges for indulging in the affair.

I do not condone adultery, not in any fashion. What I do object to is the hypocrisy of the situation and the political overtones of it. While Bill Clinton has gone on to become a de-facto elder statesman in the liberal world — despite his many sexual peccadillos — a far finer man is destined for ignominy and shame for his one misdeed.

The truth of this bizarre situation — hopefully — will come out, along with its obvious political machinations and, also hopefully, Gen. Petraeus will be able to reclaim his rightful place in the history books. Stay tuned.
