BP arrests man, seizes $630,000 in meth
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested an alleged drug smuggler and seized about $630,000 worth of methamphetamine Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened when a Mexican citizen with permanent resident status allowing him to remain legally in the U.S. attempted to drive his truck through a checkpoint located on Interstate 8 near Spot Road.
As the 35-year-old man stopped for initial inspection, a working dog indicated the possible presence of contraband inside his green Mazda truck.
Agents directed him to the secondary inspection area where they reportedly discovered about 11 pounds of methamphetamine hidden behind the vehicle’s dashboard.
The man and the contraband were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
