Emery "Duke" Nordyke 90th Birthday

Congratulations Emery "Duke" Nordyke

on your 90th Birthday!!

Your family wishes you a very Happy Birthday!! Duke was born 90 years ago in Macedonia, Pottawatomie County, Iowa. His family moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where he learned to fly planes in a variety of light aircraft. A career in the Air Force, which started in the Army Air Corps during World War II, also included the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He flew his WWII combat missions in the Pacific Theater out of New Guinea. During his time with the Air Force, he was instrumental in establishing the Disaster Control system of the Air Force which has evolved into our current 911 phone and emergency systems. He retired from military service December 1, 1968. Currently, a long-time resident of Wellton with his wife, Marilyn, he is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6790 where he served his fellow veterans as Chaplain for five years. He has three children, Sharon, Sandra and Carla, five grandchildren and seven great-grand children.
