Two 'good news' Yumans inspire us

Readers often tell us they want more “good news.” Two stories in Sunday's Yuma Sun really fit that description.

First, young Amulya Doniparthi, 11 years old, asked for new science books for her class as her birthday gift. What a sad state of affairs that textbooks are 12 years old and being taped together, and what a selfless gesture on Amulya's part. Her gift deserved recognition.

Second, Wendy Beckers, at one time weighing 330 pounds, ran a half-marathon every week for 52 weeks in 2012. She and her husband have lost about 200 pounds together and changed their lives.

A young girl and her parents showed us true generosity for others. Ms. Beckers showed us gritty determination in overcoming huge odds to improve her health and life. Both can be admired and serve as shining examples of what can happen when a goal is set, obstacles are overcome and success is achieved. Thanks for inspiring us, Amulya and Wendy.
