Matador baseball splits with Chandler-Gilbert

Brandon Anderson certainly validated the decision to make him the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week last week.

Anderson threw a shutout in a 2-0 Matador victory in the first game of a doubleheader at Chandler-Gilbert.

Arizona Western (13-8 overall, 5-3 in ACCAC) lost 10-8 in Game 2.

Anderson pitched all seven innings, giving up six hits and striking out five. The Coyotes threatened in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second with one out, but Anderson followed with two strikeouts to secure the win.

Sophomore Casey Scott and freshman Kofa grad Angel Sanchez each picked up an RBI in the win.

The Matadors led 8-6 in Game 2 but allowed four runs in the eighth to let the Coyotes salvage a split.
