Sportclips franchise having grand opening Saturday
Local agribusinessman Tim Dunn visited a Sportclips shop in the Phoenix area a year ago and decided he wanted to bring that experience to Yuma so he and his teen-age boys and other men could look forward to haircuts in a sports theme atmosphere.
With his wife Eileen, Dunn is opening a Sportclips franchise in the multitenant building at 16th Street and Pacific Avenue next to Starbucks. Araceli Gamble, a former Yuman with 11 years of haircutting experience, has returned to Yuma to manage the shop.
The shop will have a grand opening Saturday. Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. No appointments are needed. Come by for a legendary hot steamed face towel, and scalp and neck massage along with a haircut.

Chocolate Crafters has moved, but it didn't go far. It's still located at 11242 S. Foothills Blvd. in Foothills Village Shopping Center but has moved to Suite 29 — where Ussery's Antiques and Gifts had been located (that business moved recently to Suite 24). The chocolate shop has the same phone number of 287-1117.

On the Brazil plantation in Powhatan, La., a great barbecue sauce was born. As the plantation's primary cook, “Mama” Clora Turner would craft and slow-brew her secret sauce, shaking a little of this, a dash of that and a pinch of lovin'.
Her son, James, drew on the culinary skills and the barbecue sauce recipe he learned from his mother to open several restaurants across the country under the name JT's Original Louisiana Barbecue.
Now his daughter Janell Jackson has come to Yuma (to join her Marine fiance) and opened JT's Original Louisiana Barbecue at Yuma Indoor Marketplace, 475 W. 32nd St. The restaurant is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. It can be reached at 446-3614.

A trustee auction sale has been scheduled on Tuesday for the property that previously housed Arizona Ted's on Main Street. Remaining balance on the loan is $885,240, according to public notice published in the Yuma Sun, with Darrell and Evelyn Davis and Jay and Jodi McCallister listed as the beneficiaries.
Ted Males, owner of Arizona Ted's, said he longer could keep up with payments due to the decline of his business. He's now buying and selling gold and silver at 2544 S. 4th Ave., in space inside Buy, Sell, Trade — look for the big chicken that used to grace Arizona Ted's.
Males has a second location for his gold and silver business at Arizona Market Place, 32nd Street and Avenue 4E.
