Nonprofits can learn more about new technology

The Yuma Area Nonprofit Institute (YANPI) invites philanthropic organizations to learn how to better use information technology (IT) and social media during a free upcoming seminar.

The seminar will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Yuma Main Library, 2951 S. 21st Drive. Check-in will begin at 11 a.m. and will be followed by a free lunch at 11:15 a.m.

The seminar will include two sessions. The first — “What is IT and What Can IT Do For Your Nonprofit?” — will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. The second session, “Arizona Gives Day: Workshop for Nonprofits,” will be held from 12:35 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Those who wish to attend are asked to register at www.arizonanonprofits.org/content/what-it-what-can-it-do-you-and-your-nonprofit.

According to YANPI, IT is becoming one of the most important aspects of any company's success. IT topics include hardware and software purchasing and support, consulting, programming, social media/websites, mobile devices, training, video-conferencing, data backup, remote access, mass emails, video and other topics.

To help guide the Yuma area nonprofits through the broad field of IT, Tom Torretta of the Arizona Community Foundation and Emma Schneider of Arizona Grantmakers Forum will be at the seminar to offer expert advice and to answer questions about that topic during the beginning portion of the event.

Torretta and Schneider will then speak about “Arizona Gives Day,” which was created in a partnership between the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and the Arizona Grantmakers Forum as a fundraiser for philanthropic organizations statewide. Arizona Gives Day will be held on March 20.

During the second portion of the seminar, attendees will receive technical assistance on topics such as social media, setting up an online profile for Arizona Gives Day, cultivating new donors with online giving and engaging current donors.
