Art show equals explosion of color at gallery

From beaded jewelry to floral paintings, The Village Art Gallery will be filled to the roof with color Friday when it hosts another of its popular art shows.

This show will feature the works of two well-known artists in Yuma: Deanie Anderson-Holbrook and Jeanie Beisner.

The event is slated for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 3300 S. 8th Ave. south of Toys "R" Us. The show and reception with light refreshments are free and open to the public.

The Village Art Gallery is a nonprofit venture, owned by the local art club Desert Artists of Yuma.

Gallery leaders say the public has a real treat in store for them with the art created by these local ladies.

Anderson-Holbrook will show her acrylic and watercolor paintings.

"Her art is real popular. She sells all the time," said Norma Tuttle, the gallery's director. "Deanie has been around a long time, and everybody knows her and everyone likes her work."

Anderson-Holbrook is the person who sold The Village Art Gallery to Desert Artists. Prior to that commercial venture, she owned two other Yuma art galleries over the years.

"Art is just part of her life," Tuttle said. "If she can't be painting, she doesn't feel like she's living at all."

Beisner will be showing oil paintings and her beaded jewelry.

"Her flowers are just wonderful," Tuttle raved about Beisner's paintings. "She just has a way of expressing herself on canvas. Her selection of colors is wonderful."

Beisner's beaded jewelry ranges from earrings and necklaces to colorful bracelets.

"They are made into one-of-a-kind pieces. You can't just go out and buy one anywhere," Tuttle said. "She has sold quite a lot."

Friday's show will be the third at the gallery under Desert Artists' watch. A show was held in May, then another last month. The events have been well received, too, with around 150 people attending.

The gallery's next show will be a Christmas show called "Give a Gift of Art," featuring small paintings and other little, affordable objects of art.
