THE THIRD ANNUAL ARTrails Studio Tour will be happening this weekend and March 13-14. Artwork will be showcased at 19 different venues from 41 different artists.

ARTrails event returns to Yuma this weekend

There's a buzz in Foothills this weekend with the third annual ARTrails art show.

It's an opportunity for artists in Yuma County to show off their passion through a show where visitors travel from venue to venue - getting to experience all kinds of art.

From oil paintings to gourd art, there is a little something for everyone.
And it's growing from year to year, said co-chair Linda Calahan.

"We're grown to 19 venues and 41 artists. So it's getting bigger and better every year.

"We just decided we're such a big area out here and it's hard to ever find a venue to show all of our art that we would just have open studio tours."

There is another big event in town this weekend, but the artists welcome the extra visitors to Yuma.

"We wanted to coordinate ourselves with (Midnight at the Oasis) because we find that the women who get tired of looking at cars come and look at art," Calahan said. "We'd like to bring more people in from the downtown area."

Co-chair Marijke Farnsworth said there will be an opportunity for visitors and art lovers to enter contests at each of the 19 venues with an art giveaway.

Calahan said each artist is donating a piece of art at each venue. Guests sign in at each stop on the tour for their chance to win.

"The more venues you go to, the more chances you have to win a piece of art. That way, we're sharing our art with everybody."

Examples of art include watercolor, oil, pastels, colored pencils, acrylic, photography, gourds and stained glass.

A reception to help kick off the event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Desert Grace Community Church, 12134 N. Frontage Road.

Organizers said there will be finger food, and all of the artists will have a preview of their artwork.

The group decided to hold the show over two weekends this year, Calahan said, because "we found that everybody couldn't get around ... in one weekend."

Now, guests can take more time. "There's always a second weekend for them to come around and take a look," she said.

"I think it's very exciting for the artists," said Farnsworth. "Everybody works very well to bring this all together, and all the artists really like to visit and talk about their art.
"It gives us a chance to show the community what we do."
