City invites artists to apply for ARTbeat 6

Calling all artists! The city of Yuma is inviting artists to apply for its annual juried art show, ARTbeat.

For the first time, the event will take place in the evening, on April 20 in historic downtown Yuma. It will include an outdoor tent exhibit and art sale hosted by the Yuma Art Center, 254 S. Main St.

ARTbeat, now in its sixth year, showcases an eclectic mixture of recognized and emerging local, regional and international artists in a variety of artistic mediums and styles including sculpture, painting, jewelry, graphic design, glass, ceramics, photography, mixed media and more.

Ana Lazo-Padilla, event coordinator, said the purpose of ARTbeat is to help local artists by giving them an opportunity to sell and exhibit their work. The art center does not keep any of the money from sales; it all goes to the artist.

Among the awards to be presented are Rising Star, Artistic Journeys, Best Presentation and Best of Show. Winning artists also get a monetary award.

Last year’s show attracted a record 85 artists from throughout Yuma County, as well as Phoenix, El Centro, Calif., San Luis Rio Colorado, Son., and Baja California.

The cost for participating artists is $30 for a single 10-by-10-foot tent/booth. A 20-by-20-foot group booth is $60.

Interested artists may pick up an artist entry application from the Yuma Art Center in person or online at www.YumaAz.gov. Or contact Lazo-Padilla at Ana.Lazo-Padilla@yumaaz.gov or 373-5207.

The application deadline is March 22. Works of art will be selected March 26.
