Ashley M. Teal
  Ashley M. Teal of Yuma was recently named an Alden Scholar for the 2008-09 academic year at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.

  Alden Scholar awards are presented to students who maintained a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher during the preceding academic year. Allegheny College is a nationally recognized, selective college of the liberal arts and sciences in northwestern Pennsylvania.

  Teal is the daughter of Paula and Kenneth Whiting of Yuma.

Sebastian Joshua Pailliotet
  Pfc. Sebastian Joshua Pailliotet recently graduated from basic training at Fort Leonard Wood at St. Louis, Mo.

  He was the recipient of the Echo Excalibur's award for a high Army physical fitness test score of 300 plus and also got second place for perfect score on rifle range.

  Pailliotet is stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., part of the 35th Engineer Battalion Corps of Engineers, is taking advanced ammunition training and will proceed to ranger training. He is the son and grandson of John Pailliotet Jr. and Jill Althoff, and John and Flora Pailliotet all of Yuma, and a 2009 graduate of Kofa High School.

Erica Urtuzuastegui
  Erica Urtuzuastegui recently graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology, the veterinary technology program in Denver, Colo. She received her associate of applied science diploma as a veterinary technician with full accreditations from American Animal Hospital Association.

  Urtuzuastegui will be taking her Veterinary Technician National Exam in January to get her certification. She is also planning to pursue an in-depth specialty in anesthesia, dentistry, emergency and critical care. She is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association, Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians, Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America.

  Urtuzuastegui, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Urtuzuastegui of Somerton, works at West Ridge Animal Hospital in Greeley, Colo., and resides in Fort Collins, Colo.

Martha Anderson
  Martha Anderson is studying in Chile during the fall semester through the Office for Education Abroad at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., and St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn.

  Students are encouraged to perfect their Spanish language skills, while at the same time, integrate into the rich and diverse culture through experiential learning opportunities such as field work. The program partners students with Chilean host families.

  Anderson is the daughter of Robert and Kerry Anderson of Yuma and is a junior nursing major at CSB.

Gila Ridge FFA
 Members of the Gila Ridge High School FFA Chapter were one of 28 teams to participate in the 2009 National FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event.

  Team members are Katherine Bierhaalder, Samantha Fry, Stephanie Gregston, Kimberly Merrill, and their FFA adviser is Tom Safranek.

  Participants were asked to take an objective test, design and formulate or reformulate a simulated food product, conduct nutritional analysis and apply food safety and sanitation principles.
