Partial street closures for air show begin Thursday

With the air show this weekend, several streets near Marine Corps Air Station Yuma will be closed starting Thursday to comply with federal aviation requirements.

The portion of 32nd Street from Pacific Avenue to Avenue 3E will be closed from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, from 1:30 p.m. to as late as 4:30 p.m. Friday, and from 1:30 p.m. to as late as 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The portion of Avenue 2-1/2E from Palo Verde Street to 32nd Street, as well as the portion of Palo Verde Street from Lakin Avenue to Avenue 3E, will be closed from 10 a.m. Thursday to as late as 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Airport Loop from 40th Street to Avenue A, 39th Street from Arizona Avenue to Pico Avenue, and 39th Place from Arizona Avenue to Pico Avenue will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

In addition, attendees of the air show on Saturday will not be able to park their vehicles in the main parking lot of the Yuma County Fairgrounds along 32nd Street. The parking lot will be closed to the public beginning Thursday.

Instead, parking will be available in the northern parking lot of the fairgrounds, located on Avenue 2 1/2E, for free. Those parked there will be offered free shuttle service to the entrance of the air show by YCAT. The bus route will begin at the YCAT bus stop on Pacific Avenue by Walmart, travel to the Yuma County Fairgrounds North Parking Lot, and then on to the base.

The shuttle will operate about every 20 minutes starting at 8 a.m. and concluding by 4 p.m.

Due to traffic congestion and road closures, YCAT's Green Route 4 will not provide service to MCAS Yuma or travel east of Pacific Avenue. Passengers destined for these locations will need to use the free Air Show Shuttle at the Walmart and Pacific Avenue bus stop instead.

Due to the temporary road closures, event organizers ask attendees to make every effort to reduce traffic on Avenue 3E and 32nd Street.

A detour will be set up via County 14th Street and County 13th Street, with designated signs providing guidance to the entrances to the air station where free general parking will be available.

At MCAS, general parking off of County 13th and County 14th will only allow one-way traffic to flow onto the air station from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Then at 2 p.m., the one-way traffic flow will be reversed to expedite visitors leaving the air station.

Patrons with handicap accessible parking passes may enter the base through the North Gate on Avenue 3E and park in specially designated parking locations.
