8th Avenue, 24th to 32nd
A contractor working for the city has begun work on the 8th Avenue improvements project. 8th Avenue is closed to through traffic between just south of 28th Street and the north edge of Catalina Drive. Local traffic is available for business access and some residential access. Through traffic should detour using 4th Avenue or Avenue A. East-west through traffic on 28th Street can now move freely.
Paving is expected to continue south from 28th Street to just north of Catalina. Crews will then continue underground pipe work between Catalina and 32nd Street.
Scope of the overall project is to replace the pavement on 8th Avenue from 24th Street to 32nd Street, as well as repair curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways as needed, replace the water line and make minor repairs to existing sewer lines. Work on the overall project is expected to take 4 months to complete.
24th Street, Pacific to Arizona
Work is underway to replace the water line under 24th Street between Pacific Avenue and Arizona Avenue.
Underground utility improvements in the 24th Street intersection with Arizona Avenue continue. Traffic is restricted to one lane each direction through the intersection.
Additionally, the project is awaiting some materials to arrive with proper specifications.
Repaving of the 24th Street surface will follow work in the Arizona intersection.
4th Avenue repaving - ADOT
ADOT's 4th Avenue repaving project is in its final phases. Work in isolated locations in the project zone (I-8 to Catalina Drive) is possible until crews return to apply final permanent lane striping in several weeks. 3rd Street hard closures - Southwest Gas
Southwest Gas is conducting a 35-day gas line project underneath 3rd Street, resulting in a series of one-block closures of 3rd Street in areas roughly between Avenue A and Avenue B. Work has been in the areas of 19th Avenue and 20th Avenue this week. Follow traffic control devices and observe residential area speed limits during detours, please.
City of Yuma street maintenance, Aug. 12-16
City of Yuma Street Maintenance crews will perform grinding and crack seal operations in the following area(s):
• 10th Street, from Avenue A to 14th Avenue (crack seal)
• 11th Street, from Avenue A to 14th Avenue (crack seal)
• 12th Street, from Avenue A to 14th Avenue (crack seal)
• 12th Avenue from 11th Street to 12th Street (grinding)
• 13th Avenue from 10th Street to 12th Street (grinding)
• Arena Drive from 10th Street to 12th Street (grinding)
8th Street - 6th Avenue - Southwest Gas
Southwest Gas is conducting a 60-day gas line replacement project in the north central area of Yuma, resulting in a series of isolated lane closures. Work on 6th Avenue along the east side of the street will include closures at 7th Street and at 8th Street. The 8th Street phase of the project will involve 8th Street being reduced to one lane each direction between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue with no left turns at 6th Avenue. Follow traffic control devices and observe residential area speed limits during detours, please.
Cable installation at various locations - Crane District
Aerial and underground placement of fiber optic cable for the Crane School District will take place at various locations between July 26 and Oct. 1. This will involve isolated, temporary lane restrictions in various locations along streets including Avenue B, Avenue C, Avenue D, 16th Street, 24th Street and 32nd Street. Flagmen will be present for some crossings on two-lane streets. Work will also take place in major intersections within the general work zone, which stretches from the East Main Canal to Avenue B and from 32nd Street to just south of 8th Street.
1st Street approaching Avenue B
Work on the sidewalk and handicap ramp at 1st Street and Avenue B will result in a temporary spot closure of the right westbound lane of 1st Street for five days in the upcoming month.
Giss Parkway, Main Street to Madison - Southwest Gas
Southwest Gas will have a five-day gas line replacement project on Giss Parkway between Main Street and Madison Avenue. Individual, temporary lane closures will take place on Giss during the course of those five days.
32nd Street, 8th Avenue to 4th Avenue - Century Link
Century Link continues working in the vicinity of 32nd Street between 8th Avenue and 4th Avenue. Eastbound 32nd Street is restricted to one lane in each of the work zones. This project is expected to last 10 days, to be completed no later than Aug. 28.
