AWC welcomes pianist, Kendo class
An acclaimed pianist will be performing at Arizona Western College on Thursday and the public is invited to attend.
John Cain, jazz pianist and Latin music specialist, will present a lecture and recital on Thursday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. in room MU 102 in AWC Music Building on main campus, 2020 S. Avenue 8E.
“The event is free and open to the public,” stated AWC. “Attendees are encouraged to bring questions to ask Cain.”

Arizona Western College will continue offering Kendo, a Japanese martial art, beginning Friday.
The classes will take place Fridays from Jan. 25 through May in the AWC Gym room 115 on the main campus.
"Kendo, which means ‘way of the sword,’ is a traditional, popular sport in Japan, and is of samurai origin," stated AWC. "The focus of the course will be on the basic technical and mental skills associated with the discipline of Kendo. Emphasis will be placed on physical conditioning, mental discipline and self-awareness."
Students are required to be at least 14 years of age or older and people of all fitness levels are welcome. The purchase of a Shinai, a weapon that represents a Japanese sword and is used for practice and competition in Kendo, is required for the course.
Contact Kendo instructor Francisco Villa at francisco.villa@nau.edu for information on how to order the equipment. The fee for the course is $59, which does not include the cost of the Shinai.
