Yuma bank robbed
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Two men robbed a Yuma bank of an unknown amount of cash Friday after handing a teller a note demanding money.
At about 3:42 p.m., two men entered the National Bank of Arizona at 2415 S. Avenue A and stood in line like normal customers would have done, according to Lt. Steve Suho of the Yuma Police Department.
"When the next available window opened up, one of the robbers walked over to it and gave the teller the note, while the other one stood off to the side," Suho said.
The robber, in the note he handed to the teller, claimed to have a gun, but no weapon was seen during the robbery, according to police.
Suho said the teller complied with the robber's note and gave him all of the cash in her drawer. There were three to four customers in the bank at the time and no one was injured.
Suho said that after taking the cash, the men walked out of the bank and were last seen heading west. Police are investigating whether the men fled the scene on foot or in a vehicle.
"No one saw a car," Suho said. "They possibly could have headed south afterwards."
Both suspects are thought to be in their early to mid-20s.
The first suspect is described as having dark hair, a moustache and a center patch of hair on his chin. He was described by witnesses as wearing a black baseball cap with cream-colored stripes and an unknown logo. He also wore a dark blue shirt with white stripes and dark- colored jeans and shoes.
The second suspect is described as having a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a black visor and had dark hair with blond or bleached highlights. Witnesses described him as wearing a shirt with wide horizontal white gray and dark stripes, khaki pants and dark brown boots.
The bank was closed for the remainder of the day while police investigators processed the scene for any evidence.
In addition to watching the surveillance video, Suho said police will be interviewing everyone in the bank at the time.
"We are looking for fingerprints or shoeprints that may have been left behind on the floor," Suho said.
Police ask anyone with further information about the robbery to call them at 783-4421, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
