Bank robbery suspects evading police
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Yuma Police Department are still trying to identify and locate the two suspects who, on Friday, brazenly robbed the National Bank of Arizona at 2415 S. Avenue A.
"Nothing significant is going on today," said YPD Sgt. Scott Legros on Saturday afternoon. "We are still following leads and are encouraging the public to come forward if they have any information or can identify the suspects in the armed robbery."
According to YPD, at about 3:42 p.m., two men entered the bank and stood in line like normal customers. When the next available window opened up, one of the suspects walked over to it and gave the teller a note in which he demanded money and claimed to have a gun, although no weapons were seen during the robbery.
YPD said the teller obeyed the suspect's note and gave him all of the cash in her drawer. After taking the cash, the two men walked out of the bank and were last seen heading west.
Legros said the men's faces are clearly seen in the surveillance video, which should make their arrests easier.
"I’ve been told at least one of the suspects made a half-hearted attempt to conceal himself, but he couldn't have gone to JCPenney and gotten a better portrait."
Legros said YPD will find the men eventually, adding the suspects could live in the Yuma area, or be from out of town.
Both suspects are described as being in their early to mid-20s.
The first suspect is portrayed as having dark hair, a moustache and a center patch of hair on his chin. He was described by witnesses as wearing a black baseball cap with cream-colored stripes and an unknown logo. He also wore a dark blue shirt with white stripes and dark- colored jeans and shoes.
The second suspect is depicted as having a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a black visor and had dark hair with blond or bleached highlights. Witnesses described him as wearing a shirt with wide horizontal white gray and dark stripes, khaki pants and dark brown boots.
Legros said any information is useful.
"We are actively following leads, and if we receive a call, we will go out to look. We do appreciate any assistance."
Police ask anyone with further information about the robbery to call them at 783-4421, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
