ON Deck: Winter Meetings
My freshman year of college I was a music major. In December, in addition to finals, we had what are called “juries.”
Basically you perform a piece of music you've been practicing for the whole quarter in front of your professor, alone, in a huge concert hall. Very scary.
Well, the week I should have been practicing happened to land during the baseball winter meetings. I holed myself up in a practice room with the best intentions but instead just clicked refresh on MLBTradeRumors.com.
I'm a baseball junkie at heart, and even though I despise rumors, this is the one week I let it all go.
Having all those baseball minds crammed into to a hotel at once, discussing trades, free agents, dollars and cents. I can only imagine what a fun, stressful time it would be to work in baseball.
Anyway, you imagine how I did on my jury performance. I'll give you a hint: I'm a sports writer, not a classical percussionist.
