ON DECK: Yuma Baseball League debut

The first thing I did when I found out I'd be moving to Yuma was look for a baseball league.

I'd been playing men's fastpitch softball in Seattle for a few years and was addicted.

Thankfully I found the next best thing with the Yuma Adult Baseball League.

I've been waiting for five long months to play, and last night I finally got the chance, albeit with little success.

I went 0-2 with a walk (I hope you're reading this Mr. Beane) and showed off my atrocious route-running skills in right field.

But our team won, I had a blast and I can't wait to get back out there next week.

I learned a long time ago, probably while I was riding the pine in little league, that baseball is a game of failure. Unlike slowpitch softball, you fail and fail and fail.

The humility of baseball is one of the main reason's I love it. If you work hard enough, long enough and keep coming back, the game will reward you. And when it does, there's nothing like it.
