Pink Fiesta to benefit cancer coalition

Regional Center for Behavioral Health (RCBH) will celebrate its eighth annual fashion show in Yuma.

The event, called Pink Fiesta, includes over 20 models on Sunday during the traditional fashion show in collaboration with Dillard’s in Yuma.

It will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St. Tickets are on sale for $10 and can be purchased from RCBH and Dillard’s.

“RCBH has been organizing this event benefiting breast and cervical cancer survivors for eight years,” said Mary Esparza, program director for the Women’s Health Division for RCBH. “Several of the models are cancer survivors themselves.”

As is the case every year, Dillard’s not only provides the outfits and the makeup, but makes all the scenery arrangements.

“It is an honor to work with these ladies and to make them feel like a queen for a day,” said Billie Puff, sales manager for Dillard’s women’s department. “It’s one of the few things we can do to give back to the community which has supported Dillard’s for so many years. This is just our way of saying thanks.”

Through the years, the show has added more details to spark the interest of the public.

“The models will have someone accompanying them as they go through the catwalk on the stage,” said Esparza. “They will be accompanied by three local Marines and three city of Yuma firefighters.  They, too, will be modeling.”

Puff said the models will be showing two outfits each “and Dillard’s will provide an expert cosmetologist to do the makeup, using products from Estee Lauder, Clinique, Channel and Lancome."

With the purchase of a ticket to the show, attendees will receive a 20 percent discount toward purchases at Dillard’s. The discount will be valid for one month after the fashion show.

Funds raised at the event will benefit the Yuma County Cervical and Breast Cancer Coalition.

Alejandra Cerball and Nicole Cunningham, from KYMA-Channel 11, will host the ceremony.

According to Esparza, entertainment will be provided by Mariachi Juvenil Sol de America from San Luis Rio Colorado, Son., directed by Mario Cosio, as well as the Ballet Folklorico of St. Francis of Assisi, led by Emma Luna.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served and, according to Esparza, during the intermission, raffle tickets for baskets filled with cosmetics and perfumes courtesy of Dillard’s will be sold.

For more information, call Esparza at 627-9222.
