Party to benefit museum garden
The Federated Garden Clubs of Yuma will host A Party for the Garden on Sunday as fundraiser for restoration of the garden area at the Sanguinetti House Museum.
The party will feature gifts for attendees, an old-fashioned cake walk, strolling musician, silent auction of collectible items and a booth selling plants cloned from the garden. Food and drink booths will offer such treats as nectar drinks, nuts and seeds, cakes and cookies.
The event will take place 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the museum garden, 240 S. Madison Ave.
Cost is single ticket, $25 each; youths 6-16, $10; and children under 6, free. Tickets are available at Sanguinetti Museum; Zinn Printing, 386 E. 16th St.; and from area garden club members.
In 2005 and 2006, the Federated Garden Clubs partnered with the Sanguinetti House Museum and the Arizona Historical Society to secure three grants that were used to restore the museum's garden area. That money plus donations provided enough funding to prune, replant and update the garden each fall.
Sunday's fundraiser is intended to replenish funds for restoration.
Yuma merchants are being asked to help by donating items to make the event a success. All donors of in-kind goods or cash will be recognized on a poster near the entrance to the garden.
