Bicyclist hit by bus in critical condition
A 16-year-old bicyclist was critically injured late Saturday evening after being struck from behind by a commercial bus, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
The identity of the bicyclist has not yet been released, deputies said.
At approximately 11:12 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's deputies responded to an accident at Fortuna Road, south of 28th Street, where they learned that the bicyclist, who was traveling southbound on the west edge of Fortuna Road, had been struck from behind by a commercial passenger bus. The bus was driven by Robert Lee Dever, 65, of Yuma, who also was traveling southbound on Fortuna Road.
The bicyclist sustained head trauma and other injuries and was transported via helicopter to a Phoenix hospital in critical condition, deputies said.
The collision is still under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, deputies said.
