YRMC looking for board candidates

The local hospital is looking for community members interested in volunteering on its board of directors. Yuma Regional Medical Center is accepting applications for four open board positions.

The hospital is seeking individuals interested in serving the community who have an interest in health care and strong interpersonal and management skills. The role of the board is to set policy.

Successful candidates would serve an initial four-year term with eligibility for up to three consecutive terms. Board members must be able to commit to 10 to 25 hours a month for committee meetings, in-town and out-of-town educational seminars and preparation time.

In addition, each member participates on at least two to four board committees.

Qualified candidates must possess a “strong commitment to the mission, vision and values of YRMC without any personal agenda.” They should also demonstrate “strong communication skills, diverse critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, visionary leadership skills and willingness to represent a cross-section of the community.”

YRMC uses a “rigorous” selection process to find the best candidates. A Board Selection Advisory Committee reviews all applications and conducts reference checks. All but two of the Advisory Committee members are members of the community and not a trustee on the YRMC board of directors.

Committee members represent major segments of Yuma's economy such as agriculture, education, military, ministerial and business.

After screening all applicants, the committee will refer a minimum of three candidates to the Board Governance Committee. The Governance Committee will interview each candidates and make a recommendation to the board of directors. The board will ultimately elect each new member.
