Services for BP agent Tuesday

A funeral will be held Tuesday for a Yuma Sector Border Patrol agent who died Thursday after collapsing at an immigration checkpoint.

A viewing will be held Monday for Yuma Border Patrol Agent John A. Hoag III. The viewing will take place at Yuma Mortuary from 2 to 4 p.m for Border Patrol agents, 4 to 6 p.m. for family and close friends, and 6 to 9 p.m. for the public.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Yuma Mortuary. Burial will follow at Desert Lawn, 1415 S. 1st Ave.

Pallbearers will be the Border Patrol Honor Guard.

Hoag collapsed Thursday while working at the immigration checkpoint on Highway 95, according to Border Patrol officials. He was transported by ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A cause of death has not been publicly released.

Hoag was born Sept. 24, 1969, in Pennsylvania. A six-year veteran of the Border Patrol, he previously served in the U.S. Army and was a police officer in Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 15-1/2 years, Angela; twins, Jared and Trinity; daughter, Heather; and his mother, Debbie. Hoag was preceded in death by his father, John Hoag Jr.
