DaBoyz now open at the Kress

DaBoyz Italian Cuisine has opened its doors at the Kress Building, 284 S. Main St., on the ground floor of the downtown historic building.

The Kress building was purchased by Frank Ruiz in 2007 and since has been undergoing extensive renovations.

"It's a beautiful new place," said Cathy Duran, sister of DaBoyz owner Christine Gapp. The restaurant has seating for 150 indoors as well as patio seating, and it has four party rooms available at no charge for birthday parties, wedding receptions, showers and other special occasions.

DaBoyz is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, featuring such Italian cuisine as pizzas, pasta dishes, salads and sandwiches with a menu that has been expanded from the Foothills restaurant, Duran said.

A special events center and rhythm and blues nightclub on the third floor and Top of the Kress, a rooftop lounge, are slated to open to the public on Friday.

Hooligan's Comedy-Sports Bar, at the corner of Avenue C and 24th Street, has closed its doors less than a year after it opened.

A sign on the door says "sorry but we are closed temporarily for regrouping."

The phone number has been disconnected and the owners couldn't be reached for comment.

Bratcher's Dojo of the Southern Sun has relocated to 3325 S. Avenue 8E, Suite 9, in the Cielo Verde multitenant building on the west side of the Walmart on 32nd Street in the Foothills, announced owner Nathan Bratcher.

Plans have been submitted for remodeling at the Old Navy store at Yuma Palms Regional Center, reported Alan Kircher, city of Yuma deputy building official.

He also reported:

• Plans have been received for tenant improvements at ProMed for a office for Dr. Ricky Ochoa in Suite 303.

• Plans are under review for some exterior and facade improvements for the Heritage Branch Library.

• Renovations of the Subway at 1150 W. 8th St. have been completed.

• Permits have been issued for a lobby renovation at the Oasis Church called Open Door.

• Building permits have been issued for tenant improvements for a new office in the Castle Dome Shops just south of Kohl's. The tenant for the 3,600-square-foot office will be Amedisys, which according to a Web site for the business, is a home health care provider.

The Foothills Curves has moved and is now located in a nice new larger facility at 11274 S. Fortuna Road, Suite B5, in the Pioneer Shopping Center, said owner Jenny Sulpizio. The salon has the same phone number of 345-1726.

Sulpizio said a grand reopening is being planned for April.

Curves for Women in Yuma, 1701 S. Avenue B, is holding a food drive in March for Crossroads Mission. Throughout the month, the business will waive the $79 membership fee for every new client who brings in a bag of food for the mission, said owner Darla Schofield.

The Arizona Credit Union League announces that in 2009 the state’s credit unions raised $558,574 for Credit Union for Kids, the credit union movement’s program to benefit Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

In southern Arizona, AEA Federal Credit Union in Yuma was the top earner, bringing in $14,000.

Phoenix credit unions raised $493,341 to benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital, while Tucson credit unions raised $65,233 for Tucson Medical Center.

Overall, fundraising by credit unions in Arizona ranked fourth among all other states in the country, trailing only Texas, Oregon and California. Phoenix totals ranked third among all U.S. cities.

The Hilton Garden Inn will be dedicating Channel 1 on Time Warner Cable in each of its rooms to Yuman Life, produced by Channel1Yuma to provide a snapshot of personalities, events and landmarks around the community.

This month, the program is featuring the Yuma Territorial Prison and the community's efforts to keep it open despite the State Parks Board's decision to close the historic attraction on March 29.
