Emergency preparedness
The second annual Emergency Preparedness Fair will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Yuma Civic Center. Learn how to protect your employees and business before, during and after an emergency.
Admission is free for the event that will include 16 one-hour classes and a number of exhibitors. Among the topics will be how to handle medical emergencies, safety and security in the workplace, earthquake preparedness, post-disaster health problems, how schools are preparing for emergencies and fire safety and prevention strategies.
The fair is sponsored by the emergency management offices of the city of Yuma and Yuma County and the Yuma Area Safety Council.

Chamber seeks awards nominations
The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the three awards it presents as the highlight of its annual banquet, to be held Jan. 16 at the Sonoran Pueblo Club at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. The awards and qualifying attributes include:
• 2008 Small Business of the Year, sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank - Recognizes a businessperson who through entrepreneurial spirit plays a vital role in building our community and its economy.
• Athena Award, sponsored by National Bank of Arizona - Presented to someone who personifies the highest level of professional excellence, has devoted time and energy to the community in a meaningful way, and most especially, has helped women attain their full potential.
• Chamber Member of the Year - Presented to one of the previous 12 monthly winners, General Motors, Sam's Club, MGM Internet Solutions, Yuma Jaycees, Habitat for Humanity, Fisher Chevrolet, United Way, Bobby's Territorial Harley-Davidson, Sellers Petroleum, Greater Yuma Economic Development Corp., Jacques Istell and Yuma Regional Medical Center.
