Chamber seeks awards nominations
The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the three awards it presents as the highlight of its annual banquet, to be held Jan. 16 at the Sonoran Pueblo Club at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. The awards and qualifying attributes include:
• 2008 Small Business of the Year, sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank - Recognizes a businessperson who through entrepreneurial spirit plays a vital role in building our community and its economy.
• Athena Award, sponsored by National Bank of Arizona - Presented to someone who personifies the highest level of professional excellence, has devoted time and energy to the community in a meaningful way, and most especially, has helped women attain their full potential.
• Chamber Member of the Year - Presented to one of the previous 12 monthly winners, General Motors, Sam's Club, MGM Internet Solutions, Yuma Jaycees, Habitat for Humanity, Fisher Chevrolet, United Way, Bobby's Territorial Harley-Davidson, Sellers Petroleum, Greater Yuma Economic Development Corp., Jacques Istell and Yuma Regional Medical Center. Workplace Excellence luncheon Nov. 12
Winners of the annual Workplace Excellence Awards program will be recognized during a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Yuma Civic Center.
The luncheon will include entertainment by The Laughingstock Comedy Company. The cost is $25 a person for a full table of 10.

The Workplace Excellence Awards program was established four years ago to recognize excellent people practices and innovative workplaces among Yuma-area employers. This year, there were 65 nominees and 39 finalists.
