Taming of the Shrew'
Auditions for Arizona Western College's production of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and Tuesday at the AWC Theatre on campus. Director Chip Straley said those interested in auditioning should prepare a memorized monologue, about one minute in length, anything from Shakespeare except the "Taming of the Shrew." Rehearsals will begin Feb. 5 for the play that will open April 13. For details, call Straley at 344-7592.
Choralairs
Yuma High School Choralairs will give a country western concert at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Snider Auditorium, 5th Street and 6th Avenue. Admission is $5 at the door. Another fundraiser will be the book fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 819 W. 32nd St. Directed by Ervie Isom, the 40-member singing group will be going to Las Vegas from March 29 to April 1 for competition.
Kootman: One Woman Show
Jettie Kootman, star of "Best of Broadway," will will bring her one-woman show to the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Kootman is a singer and dancer and does musical comedy. Tickets for this show in the Performing Artists Series are $16 each, available at the Yuma Art Center. Because of an injury, the "Let's Dance" duo performance has been canceled. Anyone with a ticket to the dance show can use it for the Kootman performance. Call 373-5206 for details.
Sun Cinema Series
"Something Like Happiness," a Czech film with English subtitles, will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St. The story is about three people, Monika, Tonik and Dasha, who grew up in the same housing project near a small industrial city. Admission is $3 at the door.
Travel: South by West'
Topic for the travelogue series at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 Desert Hills Drive, is "South by West (Desert Southwest)." Tickets are $7, available at the civic center or Harris Tours. Call 373-5040 for details.
Cold Cuts 3' concert
Three major artists will be performing in a concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Post Auditorium, 400 W. 5th St. The "Cold Cuts 3 Tour Concert" features hip-hop and rap artists Soul P, Man of War and Kaboose. Tickets are $15 for VIP seats, $10 general admission and $7 for AWC/NAU students with valid ID. For information, call Char McGraw at 210-3769.
Renaissance Faire
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the West Wetlands Park, north of 1st Street at 2200 Water St., entertainment will include The Duelists, Siler & Clarc, musicians, magicians, jugglers, story tellers, belly dancers, minstrels, players and more. Discount tickets are available at The Sun and Super Shopper offices at $6 per adult and $3 for children ages 7 to 14.
Wear Red Day
Friday is "National Wear Red Day" and a Heart & Soul Trunk Show luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Julieanna's Patio Caf, 1951 W. 25th St. Reservations are to be made with Julieanna's, 317-1961, for the no-host luncheon, open to the public. Purpose of the "Wear Red Day" is to create awareness of heart disease, the No. 1 cause of death in women.
Art in Action
Yuma Potpourri Artists will host their winter arts and crafts show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Yuma County Fairgrounds, 2520 E. 32nd St. Participants will demonstrate different styles of art. Included will be metal crafts, drawings, paper arts, tole painting, miniatures, Norwegian rosemaling, French beading, jewelry, watercolors, ceramics, turned wood, candles, wind chimes, wooden puzzles, fabric art, clothing and carved wood. No admission charge.
Hospice Roping Roundup
The 20th annual Roping Round-Up, Barbecue and Western Dance to benefit Hospice of Yuma will be Saturday at the Gwynn Ranch, 4251 W. County 12th St. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. for family activities, plus a chili judging and tasting event. The guest star for the evening is Tracy Byrd, country western singer. Tickets are necessary -$55 single; $125 for family of two adults and three children, 17 and younger, in the immediate family. Call 343-2222 for ticket availability.
Yuma doll show, sale

Drama and fiddlers
Kofa High School Drama Club will introduce the Southwest Old-Time Fiddlers in a variety show at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the school auditorium, 3100 S. Avenue A. The show will feature six acts of country, gospel, swing, Celtic and Irish music, a dance skit and fiddle music by 24 musicians. Advance tickets, $4.50, are available by calling 317-8397. Admission at the door, which will open at 1 p.m., will be $5.
