The reward of not quitting
“Never, never, never quit!” was Winston Churchill's declaration to England in the destructive and fearful days of World War II.
Churchill's encouraging words of strength and determination connect with words of unending wisdom written 2,000 years ago. “So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don't give up or quit.” Galatians 6:9 [MSG]
The following story contains significant credibility regarding finishing well as opposed to quitting:
Some years ago a bridge was built over a great river in a western state. The decision was made, once it was officially opened, to give a $1,000 prize along with several other gifts to the 100th car driving across the new bridge.
The crowd gathered. Excitement was high. The 100th car was seen in the distance. Cheering was heard as the car approached the end of the bridge. Something happened. The car stopped, paused a moment and made a U-turn in the middle of the road. It was seen headed back across the bridge.
A policeman followed the car. When apprehended, the driver was asked why he turned around. He said: “When I saw the sign requiring a $1 toll fee, I decided I didn't want to pay the price.”
He did not know what that small price could have gained for him.
Many people lose out because the price seems too big of a price to pay. Don't quit! The reward given to those who persist and prevail is worth it.
God never quits and he endorses those who do not give up.
