Health cartoon very revealing
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The political cartoon published in the Sun on July 27 depicted three predators labeled “Big Medical, Big Drug and Big Insurance.” They were attacking a poor little animal labeled “Health Care Reform.”
This cartoon shows far more about the bankruptcy of the arguments for the president's and the socialists' in Congress health care plan than I believe the cartoonist intended. When the far left want to sell a plan they cannot support with facts they demonize anyone who opposes them.
Let’s look at the caricatures depicted. I am not even sure what “Big Medical” is. Is the cartoonist referent to Scripts Medical Centers, Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Mayo Clinics, or all the fine teaching hospitals and universities - not to mention all the hospitals that save lives every day?
Can anyone reading this honestly say they, or someone they know, is not only being kept alive but is enjoying a much better quality of life because of “Big Drug.” If it weren’t for “Big Drug,” barbers would still be treating people with leaches and bleeding. It was “Big Drug” not big government that conquered polio and smallpox.
“Big Drug” is not only prescription medication. How many of us depend on over the counter medicines to help us get over a cold, a headache or allergies?
As for “Big Insurance,” I have paid into health insurance all my working life. Now I face rationing because of a handful of socialists who want to take over the health care network.
Let us now consider the last icon in the cartoon. The little prey animal. If it were not so serious that would be the most laughable caricature. “Health Care Reform” should be represented by a giant eating machine.
Like all government entitlement programs, “Big Government Health Care” would require a bureaucracy, and most of the money it receives will be eaten up by fraud, waste and abuse.
We have the finest health care in the world. We had the finest education system in the world until the federal government got control of it. Don’t let the power-hungry politicians do to health care what they did to education.
