Coyote Wash projects take shape
Wellton's first hotel has definitely risen from the sand. Construction has now reached the third floor of the 92-unit Microtel that is part of the Coyote Wash development on the south side of the east Yuma County community.
Target opening for the hotel is early December.
Meanwhile, foundation work has begun on the shopping center that will be part of Coyote Wash.
Confirmed tenants so far include a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant, Quizno's Subs and Shooter's Saloon, said Don Shooter, leasing agent for Coyote Wash - and, yes, the saloon is his project. The saloon will start as a smoke-free bar and later Shooter will open a restaurant.
The shopping center also will have a nail salon, bank, laundromat and grocery store, Shooter couldn't provide specific names yet. In addition, there will be doctors' offices through the cooperation of Yuma Regional Medical Center.
Shooter said the shopping center likely will be ready to open by the spring of 2007. For leasing information, call him at 920-9611.
Randy Crist, city of Yuma building official, said plans have been submitted for construction of a new 6,000-square-foot exercise room at Sun Vista RV Resort.
Also, talks are ongoing with the owners of Southgate Mall for proposed renovations of the enclosed shopping center, he said, but no plans have been submitted yet.
There was no sign of construction Friday for Logan's Roadhouse at Yuma Palms Regional Center, but the site was staked so the earth movers may not be far behind.
The steakhouse will be going in on the parcel between Olive Garden and Famous Dave's.
A group of eighth-graders still needs some help to fund their trip to our nation's Capitol during spring break April 2-8, 2007.
Jacob Anderson, a teacher at Fourth Avenue Junior High School, arranged for the trip to Washington, D.C., through an educational student travel company called World Strides.
To raise funds, the group is sponsoring a board game called YumaOpoly. Several spaces are still available. Yuma businesses and organizations can purchase and be featured on the game as "property" spaces. Starting cost is $450.
Patron ads also are available for $75 for businesses and individuals who want to contribute to the trip's costs.
For more information about becoming a "property" owner or patron on the game or to pre-order a game, contact Anderson at 920-1477.

A tenant is coming to the sixth floor of the Crescent Center, 2450 W. 4th Ave. Mohave State Bank will move in once final tenant improvements are completed and secure phone lines are installed, said banker Brian Geren. He added that he expects the move-in date will be early to mid-August.
Mohave State Bank is a community bank established in 1991 in Lake Havasu City. Today, it has other banks in Bullhead City, Kingman and now Yuma.
The Yuma office initially will be a loan production office specializing in commercial loans, Geren said. The long-range goal is to grow into a full-service bank to occupy the entire sixth floor.
Geren had been a loan officer for four years at Foothills Bank, and previously taught economics at Cibola High School.
For now, Geren has a temporary office at J.B. Shrader Realty & Associates at the Crescent Center, Suite 119. He can be reached at 344-8822 or 261-8046.
