Travelogues begin Jan. 13 at Yuma Civic Center
Comments 0 | Recommend 0 Yumans and visitors have the opportunity to visit different parts of the world while never leaving their seats at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.
Starting Tuesday, the annual Travel and Adventure Film Series will be presented at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6.
The schedule is:
Jan. 13 - "Egypt: Cruising the Nile," hosted by Clint Denn
Jan. 20 - "Alaska - RV Adventure of a Lifetime!" by John Holod
Jan. 27 - "America's Parklands" with Gary Warriner
Feb. 3 - "Rhine River Adventure" by Rudi Thurau
Feb. 12 - "La Manche and The English Channel" by Monty Brown
Feb. 17 - "A Taste of Holland" with Don VanPolen
Feb. 24 - "Etched in Stone: Scotland to Provence" with Monty Brown
March 5 - "Magical Island Catalina" with Chuck Liddell
For the opening program, filmmakers Clint and Sue Denn will take viewers on a cruise of the historic Nile River, aboard the MS Sun Goddess.
Ancient cities of Alexandria and Cairo will be toured. Cairo has more than 16 million people today and has the Khan el Khalili Bazaar of ancient days, a shopper's paradise.
Among the sites are the Mohamed Ali Mosque, the ancient Citadel and the Egyptian Museum.
Along the way will be the Zoser Step Pyramid, the oldest, and the Pyramids of Giza, the only remnants of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Seen from the river are sites of farming the same as in ancient days, the Valley of the Kings, plus temples and a stop in Aswan, Egypt's door to Africa and visit the high dam.
Once the second city of the Roman Empire, Alexandria has Pompey's Pilla, remains of a temple and amphitheater. The Greco-Roman period influence and the great library can be seen.
Season tickets for the series are $39, available at the civic center, Yuma Art Center and and Harris Tours, a sponsor.
Individual tickets are $8 per show. For students 18 and younger, cost is $3 per show. For information, call 373-5040
