3-year-old hit by pickup in stable condition

The 3-year-old child seriously injured during a hit and run incident Thursday afternoon is currently in stable condition at the Yuma Regional Medical Center pediatric ward, according to hospital staff.

The victim's family asks the public to respect their privacy while they get through this difficult time.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office continues to search for the man who may be responsible for injuring the child during the hit and run. He had not been identified or located by deputies as of press time Friday.

The man is described as bald and in his mid-30s. He was driving a white Ford single cab pickup with a flatbed hauling a black trailer possibly containing a water tank. The vehicle is described as a newer model and could be a farm vehicle.

The incident happened at about 3 p.m. when a vehicle, possibly the truck driven by the unidentified man, collided with the child in the parking lot of a business in the 2700 block of East 16th Street. The child, who had been riding a toy in the parking lot at the time, was seriously injured as a result and was later transported to YRMC for treatment.

The sheriff's office encourages anyone with information about this incident, or the identity or whereabouts of the pickup driver, to call them at 783-4427, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
