Seeking holiday from holiday music

I was at the store the other day, and much to my dismay, Christmas music was already playing.

I have but one Christmas wish – to not have to hear holiday music everywhere until after the start of December.

I know, we're almost there. But frankly, Dec. 1 seems too soon to start. I would much rather hear it a little closer to Christmas … maybe, say, after the 10th.

It may seem like a Scrooge-like request, but that's not my intent.

It's just by the time the actual holiday rolls around, I'm already sick of the music. I'd rather listen to anything else.

I've heard the theory that stores play Christmas music so early to get people in the spirit of holiday shopping, like some sort of subliminal message system.

For me though, it's a system that backfires. I'm just one “Jingle Bell Rock” away from fleeing out the door. Retailers, let's ease on into the Christmas tunes – your shoppers will thank you.
