I heard it at church

God hears our prayer everywhere, even at church. A familiar passage read in worship says, “With my voice I cry to the Lord and He hears me and answers me out of His Holy Hill.” Psalm 3:4 [AMP]

Assurance and comfort come from knowing God hears.

If you consider that our Divine Creator is attracted by our appeal to Him for help, it is possible that God is amused at communication heard in and around church. Our desire to involve as many as possible in knowing God is entertaining.

Theological intent is not provided by the following accounts of amusing communication connected with church:

• There was a word of appreciation for the new loudspeaker installed at the church. It was given by an anonymous donor in honor of his wife.

• Ladies were reminded of a scheduled rummage sale. This is a chance for you to get rid of the things you are tired of keeping. Don't forget to bring your husband to the sale.

• A request for prayer and update was given regarding one of the ladies in the fellowship. She is improving but has trouble sleeping. She would like some tapes of the pastor's sermons.

• A 6-year-old boy accompanied his parents to church. After listening to the pastor for a short time he became restless. To ease his restlessness, his mother gave him a notepad and pencil. She suggested that he make a mark every time the pastor said “and.”

After awhile, the boy was bored. His mother asked, “Would you like to listen for another word?” “Yes,” he whispered, “I would like to listen for ‘amen.'”

The Rev. Paul Killingsworth serves as pastor at Yuma First Assembly of God.
