BLT's new concrete plant is now up and running
In a bit of positive economic news, BLT Companies’ South County Concrete Plant is now up and running at Avenue B and County 19th Street (just south of the red and white checkered building) to service the San Luis, Somerton and Gadsden area.
The concrete plant is similar to the company’s other three plants and produces up to 200 cubic yards per hour. Aggregates are trucked in from BLT’s materials plant on Highway 95 via the new Area Service Highway. To order concrete, call 726-0435.

After 14 years with a local engineering firm, Vianey R. Vega, P.E., and Roman Vega, P.E., have gone out on their own and opened a new engineering firm named Vega & Vega Engineering, P.L.C. Open since April, the firm provides civil engineering, structural engineering and surveying consulting services.
The new office is located at 1846 S. 8th Ave., right across St. Francis Church, and can be reached at 329-0000.

Plans are moving forward for Yuma's second Sonic Drive-in to be located on the east side of Avenue B a little north of 32nd Street, reported Alan Kircher, city of Yuma deputy building official. He said the project actually is in the county but the city is sharing in the plan review as the business will have city utilities.
The new Sonic Drive-in had been planned for some time.

In other city building activity, plans have been submitted for the solar photovoltaic system to be installed at the Yuma International Airport. The solar panels will be installed on top of shading parking structures to be built for much of the airport parking and are expected to generate enough power for most of the terminal's electrical needs.
Also, tenant improvement plans have been submitted for Yuma Main Squeeze at 251 S. Main St. The business is a custom winery to be opened by Fred and Mary Erle.

Emerald Springs, a retirement and assisted living community at 1475 S. 46th Ave., is wrapping up an extensive renovation project after being purchased in January 2009 by LaVida Communities (parent company Senior Resource Group).
The major renovation began with refurbishing 50 apartments; other apartments will also be redone as they become available, said Janell Opsahl, executive director.
The renovation extends to the outside as well, with painting of the exterior, paving the parking lot, replacing the roof and redoing the landscaping and installing new lighting.

According to public notices published by the Yuma Sun, AZMP LLC, 3351 S. Avenue 4E, is to be sold during a trustee sale July 23 at Chicago Title Insurance Co., the current trustee. AZMP LLC is the parent name for Arizona Market Place.
According to the notice, the beneficiary is 1st Bank Yuma with an original principal balance of $2.2 million.
Dan Winwiddie had become the sole owner in January of Arizona Market Place and had been planning to provide more permanent shade structures for the 1,000-space swap meet, according to Yuma Sun archives.
Dinwiddie and Arizona Market Place couldn’t be reached by Comings and Goings for comment by press time.

Hotel Lee, 390 S. Main St., is boarded up and apparently has been closed. The hotel couldn’t be reached for comment.
