Motorcyclist being treated in Phoenix for injuries
Collision happened Monday in Yuma
A Yuma motorcyclist who suffered serious injuries in a collision with a vehicle Monday is currently being treated at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.
According to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, the collision happened at about 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue B and County 19th Street.
At that time, a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle driven by 25-year-old Andres Esquivel was traveling northbound on County 19th Street through the intersection.
A 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe being driven westbound by 67-year-old Pedro Marin of Salinas, Calif. reportedly failed to yield at the stop sign and entered the intersection. The front end of the Tahoe then collided with the right side of the motorcycle.
Esquivel was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Somerton/Cocopah Fire Department. He was later flown to Phoenix because of the severity of his injuries. Marin was uninjured in the collision.
YCSO is still investigating the cause of the collision. At this time, deputies do not believe alcohol to be a contributing factor.
