Funny bone ticklers coming to Historic Yuma Theatre
Oscar, considered to be one of the “funniest comics on the scene right now, has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, HBO and his recent Comedy Central performance.
Bill Cosby called him “a comedy treasure, a treasure that's finally been discovered! A smart and perceptive storyteller, the only four-letter words you'll hear from Carlos are ‘wife,' ‘kids,' ‘debt!' and ‘help!' And Carlos' observations about his Latino family are so universal that you'll consider yourself one of them. I know I do.”
Meleán has appeared on Comedy Central's Reno 911!, UPN's The Parkers, Fox's Til Death, E!, TBS, VH1, BET, and she is the host of Si TV's Inside Joke. She's best known for her dead-on impressions as a cast member on Fox's MADtv, having been the first and only Latina cast member.
Currently, she is working with Emmy Award-winning executive producer Sandy Chanley on her one-woman show Rule Breaker.
Called one of the “hottest, multi-talented, young Latino entertainers in the country today,” Ernie G. comedy has been seen by millions of TV viewers on shows such as Comedy Central's “Make Me Laugh,” B.E.T.'s “Comic View,” Ed McMahon's “Next Big Star,” and Sí TV's “Funny is Funny!” Ernie G. is one of the original stars of Galavisión's hit comedy show “Qué Locos!” hosted by George Lopez.
Also, he has appeared on HBO Latino's “Habla Again,” MUN2's “Loco Comedy Jam,” as well as Sí TV's “Latino Laugh Festival!”
Ernie G. is also an inspirational speaker for the Latino community.
You don't have to be Latino to enjoy The Latin Comedy Jam. The national comedy tour featuring some of the “hottest” comedians today is coming to the Historic Yuma Theatre on Aug. 24.
The comics hitting Yuma this month are Ernie G., Jill Michele Meleán and Carlos Oscar, who is currently Princess Cruises' first-ever Entertainer of the Year.
“We picked the best of the best. They are all headliners, there are no opening acts here,” said producer Mike Acquisto-Gotti of Hokis Pokis Records and Entertainment.
“They happen to be Latino, but the show is universal and some of the topics bring you into the Latino home.”
Acquisto-Gotti compares it to the Latin version of the Def Comedy Jam and promises “laugh-out-loud” comedy.
“The Latin Comedy Jam is a famous comedy tour. Gabriel Iglesias, Carlos Mencia and even George Lopez have all done stints on this tour,” producer Tank Jones pointed out.
The tour came to Yuma a few years ago and 1,700 attended. “We are looking to have another successful event,” he said.
They don't believe they'll be disappointed. “The support we've had in Yuma is second to none,” Acquisto-Gotti said, referring to the process of organizing the show.
The business partners are used to being on the stage, but for this tour, they're on the other side of the stage. Both Arizona State University graduates, they performed together in the film “Three Kings” with George Clooney and toured with LL Cool J.
“We're now behind the curtain in this one,”Acquisto-Gotti said.
The event will be family-friendly. “We call it a community tour. We want everyone to come to the show,” he added.
Doors at the Historic Yuma Theatre, 254 S. Main St., will open at 7 p.m., and the show will start at 8 p.m.
