The Yuma Sun is giving away tickets to see Monique Marvez perform at Cocopah Casino this Saturday.

We have sets of tickets for the 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. performances of this 21-and-up show. Look for details on Facebook.com/YumaSunNews.

A comedian who filmed a Showtime special with Snoop Dogg earlier this year brings her act to Cocopah Casino this weekend.

Monique Marvez performed in “Snoop Dog Presents: The Bad Girls of Comedy” in front of a sold-out crowd of 1,700 fans. But the radio and television personality, writer and comedian is probably best known for being featured in “Original Latin Divas of Comedy.”

On Saturday, Marvez hits the stage at Cocopah Casino for performances at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. She'll be sharing the stage with Kyle Fitzgerald and Tymon Shipp.

Tickets are $10 general admission and $15 for VIP. Attendees must be 21 years or older.

“Everyone will love Monique. Her brand of comedy resonates with everyone, young or old, male or female,” said John Giles, marketing director for Cocopah Casino. “All these comedians are established and have been working for years on their craft. Tymon has been on ‘The Tonight Show' at least nine times, and Kyle is a man's-man comedian. He was even on ‘The Man Show!'”

Shipp has also performed at Brad Garrett's Comedy Club at the Tropicana in Las Vegas. He also placed in the top 10 during the Las Vegas Comedy Festival Competition.

Cocopah Casino began hosting its monthly comedy night performances in May with shows starring Yuma native Robert Wagner. Comedy Nights since then have featured performers ranging from Chris Bennett to Andy Kern.

“Having a monthly comedy show has proven to be very successful,” Giles said. “We have seen our patrons return every month and having a great time. Their first words after the show are ‘These guys were great. Who's coming next?'”

Monique Marvez launched her career on the comedy scene in Miami but was quickly touring the country and world. She's also made a major splash on the little screen, with numerous performances on HBO, Comedy Central and ABC.

Marvez earned an Alma Award nomination for her Showtime special “Latin Divas of Comedy.”

“She is a multiple marry-er who sheds a comedic light on her struggles with relationships, weight and money issues, all with a quick wit and Latin flair,” Giles said. “Her comedy is the perfect balance of ‘aha!' and ‘ha-ha.'”

Eva Longoria chose Marvez to perform as one of the original members of the comedy troupe “The Hot Tamales Live!” Dick Clark picked Marvez to host segments of “Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve” from South Beach.

Fox Sports also recently recruited Marvez to serve as a spokeswoman for a VIP promotional tour.

Her book “Not Skinny, Not Blonde” is expected to be released later this year.
