Relish cooking show set to mix things up in Yuma
Aspiring chefs should mark their calendars for an upcoming date with a celebrity chef.
The Relish Cooking Show Expo 2011 will feature Chef Jon Ashton, a TV personality who has shared the camera with everyone from Paula Deen to Martha Stewart.
New to Yuma, the Jan. 28 event takes the place of Taste of Home Cooking School, which had been an annual tradition.
All proceeds will go to the Yuma Sun's Newspapers In Education (NIE) program, which helps to bring the newspaper to schools that request its services.
Karen Phillips, NIE manager, said she hopes the new cooking event will stir up new interest and keep longtime fans of the previous cooking shows. Phillips said that despite the community's love for Taste of Home Cooking School, it was time to add some new flavor.
“We had been pushing 18 years and decided it was time to shake things up a little bit.”
A VIP Night will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at Pivot Point Conference Center, 310 N. Madison Ave. Participants will be able to partake in a cookbook signing, watch a private cooking demonstration, experience sitting at the chef's table and have the chance to go one on one with Ashton.
There are only 150 seats available for the VIP Night, and tickets are $45 per person.
The Relish Cooking Show and Expo itself will take place Jan. 28 at First Christian Church, 3261 S. Avenue 6E. The show starts at 6:30 p.m., with doors to the expo opening at 3:30 p.m.
The live cooking show starring Ashton will feature recipes, cooking tips and numerous new and clever ideas to use in the home and kitchen. Seating to this event is reserved at $12.50 per person.
Tickets for both events are on sale now at the Yuma Sun, 2055 S. Arizona Ave., weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
