Best Heating and Cooling Service: Polar Cooling

One good turn deserves another.

Andy Reeder figures that expression pretty well sums up the relationship Polar Cooling in Yuma has with its customers.

Polar Cooling, which installs and services heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems for both residential and commercial customers, offered a break on its labor rates a couple of years ago when the recession began taking a bite out of people's pocketbooks, he recalled.

“We really go out of our way to help people,” said Reeder, the owner of Polar Cooling. “When it's hot, they've got to have cooling.”

He figures that's at least part of the reason that respondents in Yuma's Best, the Yuma Sun's annual poll of readers' favorite businesses and services, picked Polar Cooling as the Yuma area's Best Heating and Cooling Service for 2010. It won the same honor in 2009.

“I love that title because it comes from the customers, and it has special meaning because it comes from the customers,” said Reeder.

Polar Cooling divides its time equally serving commercial customers, residential customers and installing units for new construction around the Yuma area, Reeder said.

And it also leases out ice machines to restaurants, bars, service stations and convenience stores and growers who need the equipment to keep their products cold, Reeder said.

In the lease program, Polar takes care of the maintenance and any necessary repair of the machines, thus freeing the users of those machines from those responsibilities, he added.

Polar Cooling is approaching a milestone, 30 years of business in Yuma, having opened here in April 1982, said Reeder.

Today, it employs 34 to serve its residential and commercial customers.

The business is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, Reeder said, but it has someone on call 24 hours a day to answer any after-hours emergency.
