The Year We Disappeared by Cylin and John Busby
Cylin Busby wrote THE YEAR WE DISAPPEARED with her father, about her experiences growing up.
When Cylin was nine years old, her police officer father, John, was shot in the face with a shotgun. The perpetrator was not caught. John survived but his family had to be put on 24 hour surveillance. Eventually they had to enter the witness protection program.
It is a fascinating story told by good people. I would love to have them as neighbors. The book is filled with surprising and truthful moments. For instance, the children at the elementary school have been told by their teachers not to mention Cylin's dad, in case it upsets Cylin. Of course that is all they want to talk about, so rather than disobey their teacher, they ignore Cylin. Consequently, she feels like a pariah.
It's a wonderful book!
