Relay dedicated to cure for cancer
This Saturday-Sunday, more than 1,000 Yumans will dedicate 24 hours to the Relay for Life, walking at Desert Sun Stadium while drawing attention to and raising funds for curing cancer.
Yuma’s Relay for Life is Arizona’s largest relay, raising more than $200,000 the past three years, thanks in part to efforts by Yuma Sun staffers John and Deb Courtis. Their enthusiasm and commitment have inspired others to form teams, resulting in massive growth in numbers and in dollars raised.
"We celebrate survivors, remember lost loved ones and fight back by raising funds to find a cure for cancer," John Courtis said. "For one night, we are one race, bound together for one cause. We are not liberals or conservatives, Catholics or Mormons, Hispanics or whites. We are simply one people trying to raise funds to finance research to find a cure for cancer."
