Yuma dentist honored by dental group

Dentists from coast to coast have been hearing a lot about Yuma lately after a local dentist's prestigious honor from the national dentistry community.

The Academy of General Dentistry recently granted Steven Rubisch, DDS, with a Fellowship Award, an honor that leaders say brings the Yuma man into an elite group of dentists.

"The AGD is proud to honor Dr. Rubisch for his commitment to continuing education and dedication to providing his patients with exceptional oral health care," AGD President David Halpern said in a news statement. "Dr. Rubisch has gone above and beyond his professional responsibilities, distinguishing himself amongst his peers and exemplifying ... allegiance to the dental community."

The honor was presented to Rubisch during a gathering held in Baltimore by the Academy of General Dentistry, the second-largest dental association in the world. Also honored that day were 220 other dentists chosen from the more than 786,000 people currently working in America's dental field.

Rubisch has practiced in Yuma since 1984. His office is located within the Avenue B Dental Group, 1460 S. Avenue B. Rubisch graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1981.

"This achievement marks a significant milestone in my career," he said, "because the award demonstrates my long-term commitment to going above and beyond continuing education requirements to provide my patients with the most up-to-date treatment options and superior patient care."

To earn his recent honor, Rubisch had to complete 500 hours of continuing dental education, plus pass a comprehensive written exam.

He was the only dentist in Yuma to receive the honor this year, according to Joshauna Walker, a spokeswoman for the AGD.

More than 14,000 dentists around the nation have received the Fellowship Award since the academy was created in 1952.

In addition to the AGD, Rubisch belongs to the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the Yuma County Dental Study Club, Southern Arizona Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
