Evaluation update on YUHSD agenda
At a special governing board meeting Wednesday, the Yuma Union High School District will receive a report from the AdvancED Evaluation team on their findings.
District staff has been working for a year to answer questions, conduct surveys and audit processes, especially around teaching and learning, to prepare for the visitation of the evaluators, which began Monday and will end Wednesday. YUHSD is seeking a districtwide accreditation.
The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in the Kofa High School Auditorium, 3100 S. Avenue A.
Immediately following the special meeting, the monthly board meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the district governing board room, 3150 S. Avenue A.
During the meeting, board members will have a discussion and possible action on claims made by retired substitutes for fiscal year 2011 and 2012.
“In October, the YUHSD Governing Board reviewed the concerns of retired teachers who had a ‘Part Time Early Retirement Employment Agreement' issued to them upon their retirement,” stated the YUHSD agenda. “They were concerned about how they had been paid for substituting during School Years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. District administration sought counsel on behalf of the district and outlined a plan of consideration for claims that retired teachers might bring to the district.”
The board will decide whether or not to approve a proposed settlement agreement, waiver and release of claims as the document to be signed by retired teachers as a condition of payment.
In other meeting news, the board will receive updates on the district's budget and safety committee as well as the Ready Now Yuma program.
Lastly, student council members from Kofa, San Luis, Yuma and Vista high schools will present reports on past and upcoming events on their campuses.
