Teen hurt in early morning shooting
A 19-year-old male was shot early Tuesday morning while outside of a residence in the 2400 block of West 3rd St.
According to Yuma police, the incident occurred at 1:56 a.m. and appears to be gang-related. It is not known yet whether the shooting was a drive-by or a confrontation of some type.
The victim, whose name has not been released yet, was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Clint Norred, spokesman for the Yuma Police Department, said the victim was later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital for treatment.
No further details were immediately available from police Tuesday evening.
Some residents in the neighborhood woke up Tuesday morning to yellow crime scene tape blocking off a large area in front of the residence where the shooting occurred.
As of 8 a.m. there were several unmarked police cars and the crime scene vehicle at the scene. Crime scene investigators could still be seen combing the area for evidence.
A few residents from the homes across the street watched all the activity for a while.
The Yuma Police Department encourages anybody with any information about this case to call Sgt. Ron Rodriguez at 1-928-373-4670 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
