Midnight at the Oasis
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BEST ANNUAL EVENT
There's something for everyone at Midnight at the Oasis, which has been named Yuma's Best Annual Event for the seventh time by The Sun's readers.
"We appreciate your support," said Jonathan Lines, president of Caballeros de Yuma, which spearheads the event. "It's all about creating a good family event ... We do it to provide a good community event and to promote Yuma."
Midnight at the Oasis is a classic car and nostalgia festival that's held in March at the Ray Kroc Complex in Yuma. "It's a great family event for young or old because there's something for everybody," Lines said.
He surmised that great weather, live concerts and rides for kids are some of the reasons the event is popular with Yuma's Best voters. "And everybody likes looking at the wild colors on all those cars!"
Tribute bands from the '50s through the '80s perform live concerts while spectators lounge in the grass, he said.
The event draws an annual average of about 60,000 spectators, he said. Of the 850 annual registered participants, about 630 are from out of town, he said. "People come to Yuma from all over the country."
For more information about the event, call Mary Cordery, executive director of Caballeros de Yuma, at 343-1715, or visit caballeros.org/midnight.htm.
