Smart phone apps for kids educational, fun

While new technology is being presented daily, it is important to remember how useful and valuable the technology we already have can be even for little ones.

As the mother of two, I am astonished at the wonderful educational applications available for my smart phone and iPad for free or for only a few dollars.

Neither of our children have started first grade and yet both love math, reading, science and music at levels that astound us. A great family educational application is Star Walk. You can see the stars, constellations and galaxies by holding your iPad or iPhone to the sky day or night. It labels everything and our kids love learning the names of stars they see. Rocket Math is another favorite allowing you to build your own rockets with the money you earn from solving math problems.

So the next time you give your child your smart phone, make sure you have downloaded a few of these free educational applications, your kids will have more fun learning instead of spending time with a few angry birds.
