Boys arrested in store fire
Two minors have been arrested on suspicion of starting a fire that forced the evacuation of a Yuma store Monday, Yuma police said.
The boys, ages 11 and 12, used lighters to start a fire in an Allied Waste trash bin behind the Fallas Paredes store, 1800 E. Palo Verde St., police said in a news release.
The afternoon fire spread from the bin to the building, damaging four aluminum doors and the building's exterior, the release said.
Customers and employees were evacuated from Fallas Paredes, the Yuma Fire Department said previously.
Yuma firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread inside the store.
A police investigation identified the two juveniles as suspects in the fire, police said, and they were arrested this week and booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center.
They were charged with arson of an occupied structure and criminal damage.
